Human Services and At-Risk Youth

More than 1,300 athletes competed in the 2011 Kansas Special Olympics Summer Games held in Wichita, Kan.

For the past 30 years, Koch Industries has helped sponsor the Kansas Special Olympics Summer Games in Wichita, Kan. In addition to the company's sponsorship, employees of Koch companies help coordinate events, assist athletes, and staff at the Koch Olympic Village where athletes can take time out for games and fun activities. More than 1,300 athletes competed in the 2011 Kansas Special Olympics Summer Games and about 200 Koch company employees and their families volunteered.

Fire, rescue, medical and emergency services are an important part of a community. In smaller and rural communities many are staffed by volunteers. Koch companies have honored this dedication to service by providing funds for necessary equipment. In 2011, Koch companies have made contributions to dozens of organizations across the U.S. For example, in Texas, Koch Pipeline Company, Flint Hills Resources and Matador Ranch each made donations to area organizations, some whose resources have been depleted due to this year’s wildfires. Through its Bucket Brigade™ program, Georgia-Pacific’s donations also provide safety education materials for schools in addition to equipment. Since 2006, the program has contributed nearly $800,000 to fire units throughout the U.S.

By supporting relief agencies in time of natural disasters, Koch companies have helped people across the world.

Koch Industries, Inc. donated $1 million to American Red Cross and The Salvation Army for disaster relief efforts in Japan following the March earthquake and tsunami. In addition, Koch Industries' subsidiary Georgia-Pacific contributed much needed paper and tableware products through organizations like Convoy of Hope and Feed The Children.

  • 6,000 bottles of water and 7,500 personal hygiene items to victims of recent flooding in Brazil from INVISTA.
  • $1.1 million for Hurricane Ike relief from Koch Industries and Flint Hills Resources, and consumer products from Georgia-Pacific.
  • Nearly $258,000 in funds and in-kind donations from INVISTA and its employees to the Red Cross Society of China, The Salvation Army and other relief agencies for victims of the 2008 earthquake in China.
  • $100,000 to 2005 tsunami relief efforts from Koch Industries.
  • More than $3.3 million in cash and in-kind contributions to help victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005 from Koch companies and employees.

Employees of Koch companies in Wichita surpassed their goal for the 2011 Salvation Army Angel Tree drive, with nearly $21,000 in donations and 1,120 area children and adult angels served. It was the 21st consecutive year for the drive at Koch. The campaign broke the all-time record set in 2010 of 1,010 angels served.
